About Us

Hi Desert Physical Rehabilitation Group opened its doors in 1989 with the goal of providing quality therapy services for adults and children. Thirty years later, we are still proudly performing these services for our clients.

Our team members specialize in adult and pediatric physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. We have offices in Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley, making us the largest clinic in the area, offering services to a region with a population of over 75,000. Our clients come from the Morongo Valley, Pioneertown, Landers, Joshua Tree, Wonder Valley, and the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. For some services, patients even come from communities in Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Coachella, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, La Quinta, Indio, and surrounding areas.

We are proud to serve our communities. We also provide the only non-school-based pediatric therapy in the region, and we welcome all marine families from the nearby Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. Our work with pediatric patients has made this nearby base one of the few approved duty stations for marines with “exceptional family members.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of therapy services do you offer, and who is eligible?

At Hi Desert Physical Rehabilitation Group, we provide a full spectrum of rehabilitative therapies, including:

  • Physical Therapy — for adults and children, addressing pain, mobility, strength, injury recovery, post-surgical rehab, gait training, balance, etc.
  • Occupational Therapy — helping patients regain or improve the ability to perform daily tasks (self-care, fine motor skills, home adaptations).
  • Speech Therapy — for speech, language, swallowing, cognitive-communication, and related disorders.

We treat patients of all ages, from infants and children (pediatric clients) to seniors. Our programs are customized to each patient’s needs.

How do I schedule an appointment, and what should I expect on my first visit?
 To schedule, you may:

  • Call one of our locations (Twentynine Palms or Yucca Valley)
  • Or inquire via our website’s contact form, located on each location’s page.

On your first visit:

  1. Intake & history — We’ll review your medical history, condition, symptoms, and goals.
  2. Assessment & evaluation — Our therapists will perform tests (strength, range of motion, functional assessment) to determine your baseline.
  3. Custom treatment plan — We’ll develop a personalized plan tailored to your goals, whether pain relief, mobility, independence, or functional improvement.
  4. Explanation & consent — We ensure you understand the “why” behind the treatment, expected timeline, risks, and benefits.
  5. Begin therapy — You may start with hands-on treatment, exercises, modalities (e.g. heat, cold, electrical stimulation), or other interventions as appropriate.

During follow-ups, we will track progress, adjust your plan, and educate you on home exercises.

Do you accept insurance, and how do payments or co-pays work?

While the website does not explicitly list accepted insurance providers, as a private rehabilitation practice, we typically accept many standard health insurance plans (you should verify specific coverage with your insurer). Patients are responsible for:

  • Co-payments or co-insurance as required by your plan

  • Deductibles that have not been met

  • Any services not covered by your plan (in which case we will provide cost estimates in advance)

It’s best to call your insurance carrier and ask whether “Hi Desert Physical Rehabilitation Group” is in-network for your therapy benefits. We also recommend calling our offices ahead of your first visit — our staff can help you understand your billing obligations before treatment begins.

How long do therapy sessions last, and how many will I need?
  • Typical therapy sessions last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity and intensity of your condition.

  • The number of sessions required varies based on:

    1. Severity and chronicity of the issue

    2. Your individual goals (e.g. full recovery vs maintenance)

    3. Rate of progress and responsiveness to therapy

    4. Your consistency with home exercises and compliance

During your evaluation, your therapist will give you a projected timeline (for example, “you may need 6–12 visits”) and periodic reassessments to adjust as needed.

Will you see my child (pediatric services), and what makes your pediatric therapy different?
Yes — we provide non-school-based pediatric therapy services in the region, meaning your child can receive therapy outside the school system at our clinics.

What sets us apart:

  • Therapists experienced in pediatric developmental, neuromuscular, and orthopedic conditions
  • One-on-one attention (no large group sessions)
  • Family education and involvement: we teach parents/caregivers how to support progress at home
  • Integration of play, fun, and age-appropriate activities to engage the child
  • Ability to address multiple domains (gross motor, fine motor, feeding, speech, etc.) under one roof

We are one of the only providers in the area offering non-school pediatric therapy in the Morongo Basin.

How do you integrate physical, occupational, and speech therapy in one practice?

At Hi Desert Physical Rehabilitation Group, because we offer all three services (physical, occupational, and speech therapy), we can provide coordinated, interdisciplinary care. That means:

  • Team communication: therapists consult with each other when a patient’s needs cross domains

  • Unified goal setting: we align therapy goals (mobility, daily function, communication) under one overall rehab plan

  • Scheduling ease: patients needing multiple services benefit from coordinated appointments in the same clinic

  • Continuity and consistency: the same facility, setting, and staff help reduce fragmentation of care

This integrated approach often leads to more holistic patient outcomes, especially for complex cases (neurological, developmental, multisystem issues).

What safety and hygiene protocols are in place (especially relevant post-COVID)?

As a healthcare provider we implement standard safety and infection control practices, such as:

  • Regular cleaning and disinfection of treatment areas and equipment
  • Hand hygiene: staff and patients encouraged to sanitize hands before/after sessions
  • Use of gloves, masks, or other protective equipment when indicated
  • Screening patients (temperature, symptoms) as needed
  • Spacing out appointments to reduce crowding
  • Use of private treatment rooms where possible

You can call ahead and ask about our current infection control practices to ensure comfort and safety.

How do you measure progress or success in therapy?

We use both objective and subjective metrics to track your progress:

  • Objective measures: strength testing, range of motion measurements, functional mobility tests (e.g. timed up and go, gait speed), balance measures

  • Subjective reporting: your pain levels, perceived difficulty with tasks, quality-of-life scales

  • Milestones and goal achievement: e.g. being able to walk unassisted, return to a daily activity or sport, perform self-care tasks

  • Regular reassessments: at intervals (e.g., every few weeks) to compare with baseline and modify the plan if needed

We involve you in the process by sharing these results, discussing changes, and ensuring transparency in the plan forward.

Why should I choose Hi Desert Physical Rehabilitation Group over other providers?

Here are some key differentiators:

  • Local specialization: We are the largest therapy clinic in the Morongo Basin / hi-desert region, specifically serving Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley, and surrounding communities.
  • Multi-disciplinary under one roof: Physical, occupational, and speech therapy offered in one place for coordinated care.

  • Experienced staff: Over 30 years of serving the region.

  • Pediatric services: We provide non-school-based pediatric therapy, a rare offering in the area.

  • Commitment to personalized care: One-on-one therapy, custom plans, patient education, and emphasis on understanding your condition.

  • Community trust: Patients in the Morongo Basin, including families of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, choose us for continuity of care.
